Covaris S2 Focused Ultra Sonicator Single Tube Focused Adaptive Energy System for High Performance Sample Preparation Ultrasonic Sound Disperser
Used see photos.
Tested works with SonoLAB Single on Windows 10 see photos.
Internal intake and exhaust water loop fittings for recirculating chiller were replaced (these are essentially consumable in the system). Function was then tested using water to cool the bath and found to be leak-free. Chiller not included.

Covaris S2 Focused-ultrasonicator (AFA; Adaptive Focused Acoustics) for high-repeatability sample prep; one big application is precise fragmentation. Tested working; we connected it to a computer (included) over USB, confirmed software communication, and verified normal operation. This platform is commonly used for DNA/RNA shearing for NGS library prep (tight fragment distributions when paired with the right microTUBEs [sold separately] and method), chromatin shearing for ChIP(-seq), and other controlled mechanical processing where temperature management and run-to-run reproducibility matter more than raw chaos.
Tech specs / highlights: Bench-top AFA system with temperature-monitored water bath, degassing and water-level sensing, and a safety interlock on the acoustic enclosure. Methods are set via treatment parameters like duty cycle, intensity, and cycles-per-burst; you can iterate protocols precisely instead of vibe-based sonication. Universal power; max draw about 300 VA; USB control via Covaris software; designed around closed tubes (microTUBE/miniTUBE ecosystem). Protocols exist for ~150–1,500 bp DNA fragment targets at common small volumes (tube dependent); real-world results depend on sample, buffer, and consumables.
Common applications:
-NGS DNA fragmentation (library prep, consistent peak sizes)
-Chromatin shearing (ChIP-qPCR, ChIP-seq workflows)
-Tough sample processing where you want controlled cavitation + mixing without cooking the sample (the AFA “non-contact-ish” water bath setup helps)
