Each unit has been bench-tested and verified over the RS-232 port using a USB–serial interface (not included in the listing, but we can sell you one separately). After power-on self-test, every box responded correctly to standard Ortec MCB commands (status, clear spectrum, start/stop acquisition, HV enable/disable), confirming that the internal HV supply, DSP, and MCA logic are all functioning as intended. In short: these are not just “dumb HV supplies”; they are fully functional DIGITAL GAMMA SPECTROMETERS.

To use them, simply connect your detector preamp to the analog input, power the unit, and talk to it via RS-232 (or ethernet on systems so equipped) using the published MCB command set or compatible software such as Ortec Maestro / Gammavision (licenses not included). With even a simple control script you can clear, acquire, and pull full spectra to your PC, making these ideal for labs, surplus HPGe setups, or anyone wanting serious gamma spectroscopy performance without paying new-instrument prices.
